I started taking classes at Bar Method in Fairfield in January. At the time, I was in a huge rut, both physically and mentally. Eight months prior, I had my 2nd baby in three years. I was 15 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight and I had no energy to speak of. I cringed every time I looked in the mirror. I was still wearing maternity clothes. I’d pretty much given up all hope of regaining the former body I once had so effortlessly. A friend of mine had told me about the Bar Method, and how amazing it was for her. She even use the word transformation. I didn’t think anything that good could be true, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I truly had nothing to lose.
During my first class, in the middle of thigh work, standing (if you can call it that) on uncontrollably shaking legs, I remember thinking, “What did I get myself into? This is too hard for me!” I can say with utmost certainty that I was working muscles I have never, ever in my life used that way before. I had no idea how to do proper form, and I was so discouraged by my lack of core strength. I could barely make it to the re-sets in ab work. But, I made it through! I distinctly remember the Stef, the instructor, saying at the end of class: “Come to this class three times a week, and I promise you will see results.” I decided almost immediately that I was going to come another two times that week, just to see what would happen. I’m so glad I did — it was the best decision I ever made!
In the past three months, my whole perspective on fitness has changed, thanks to Bar Method. I have more energy during the day, I sleep better at night, and I actually look forward to a fitness class. That has never happened in my life! Of course the change in my body physique has been amazing as well, and so gratifying. I have lost 7 pounds, but much more importantly, I have gone down 2 dress sizes, and I actually fit in clothes I wore years ago. The old adage must be true — muscle weighs more than fat. I have never had results like this: a slimmer rear, leaner thighs, and nicely toned arms that I’m excited to show off!
Bar Method has affected me in so many other ways as well. Put simply, I’m proud of myself! I’m proud that I go to class, and challenge myself through each series, working on muscles I want to change. And although it never gets easier, you do get more confident. I find Bar Method creeping into my everyday activities too: the way I carry myself, I way I bend down to pick up my baby, my posture, and the way I engage my ab muscles — all have changed for the better. Another added benefit of the classes is that they keep you on your toes (literally!). Just when you think you’ve mastered a series in class, you’ll start all over again as the instructors introduce new and more difficult challenges to your routine.
As a Mom to 2 young children, it’s almost impossible for me to find time to myself. But since I started taking classes at Bar Method, I’ve realized it’s an absolute necessity. That one hour, 3 times a week, is the difference between feeling good about myself, and feeling like I’m not paying enough attention to myself — attention that I deserve. I’m a better Mom because of it. And I can’t stress enough how wonderful the team is at Bar Method Fairfield. Their encouraging words will get you through any thigh work and their sense of humor helps you along with back dancing when you just want to give up. Best of all, their knowledge and expertise is so reassuring. You know you’re in the right hands. I can’t imagine a future in my fitness world without Bar Method Fairfield.
